Telemedicine
Nursing Home Exams – June 2014AMA developed an application allowing live medical assistance between Dr. Jean-Paul Lembelembe and a nurse, where the doctor was able to make a diagnosis and set a course of treatment from his office, with the nurse working remotely at an area nursing home. This is now a normal part of their routine, allowing the doctor to see many more patients from a number of nursing homes, eliminating the need for transporting most of the patients and reducing costs.
Remote Teaching
Nice Shoulder Course – June 2014As part of the international shoulder surgery congress, three French surgeons performed 4 different surgeries that were broadcast live to congress attendees. Pascal Boileau and two of his colleagues, Gilles Walch and Laurent Lafosse, used AMA’s Close Teaching – Live Surgery Application with Glass that enables medical practitioners to share images of the surgery with an audience from their very own point-of-view. From the Nice-based hospital, Archet 2, they executed both two arthroscopies and two arthroplasties. These surgeries were aired simultaneously on screen to the 900 shoulder experts from around the world who attended.
Liver Transplant – June 2014Before a liver surgery surgeons have to make a choice between several donors. Since the organs were not available in the hospital, a surgeon from the surgical team traveled to the donor’s hospital. He used AMA’s Live Streaming App for Glass to provide live, high-resolution images to its peers at the recipient’s hospital to make sure one of the donor organs was suitable.
Shoulder Prosthetic Surgery and Teaching – February 2014Dr. Philippe Collin, an orthopedic surgeon from CHP St-Gregoire in Rennes, France conducted a Live Surgery and Training session with doctors in Nagoya, Japan. Using Glass, Dr. Collin was able to demonstrate the installation of a prosthetic shoulder replacement part he has designed and developed. During the surgery, he was able to take and answer questions in real-time from the students in Japan.
